This is the third stage of document collection for obtaining a resident identification card in Italy (or in Campione D’Italia), known in Italian as “la carta d’identita.” According to Italian law, a foreigner who has applied for residency must reside in Italy for at least 183 days a year, equivalent to six months and one day. The documents required for requesting a resident identification card in Italy (Campione D’Italia) are:
- rental agreement or property purchase agreement;
- bank statement;
- copy of passport;
- 2 photographs;
- tax return copies for the last 3 years;
- birth certificate;
- marriage certificate (if applicable);
- fiscal code or “Codice Fiscale” (the one you obtained at the consulate or embassy in your country of residence);
- international insurance policy;
- visa type “D” for “elective residence”;
- Residence Permit Card.
All the above-mentioned documents must be presented in original form and translated into Italian with an apostille. The applicant personally submits the documents to the Comune. You submit an application for residency and pay the fee.
The procedure is quite simple. During the following 45 days, you will be “under police control.” We do not recommend leaving during this period. The police will check your presence at the declared address several times. After the control period, you will receive a letter from the Municipality by mail. The letter contains information on whether the inspection was successful and if your residency request was confirmed. If the check was successful, you must go to the Municipality with this letter and request your identification card. Two passport-size photos will be required. Depending on the type of card, the processing time ranges from ten to thirty days. Wait for the appropriate time and collect your card!
Congratulations! You are now a resident of Italy!
