☝️Yes, that’s right.
⠀
📶 We are all so accustomed to associating the residence permit in Italy with the motive of “chosen place of residence” or “residenza elettiva” only with the type of residence permit that all our compatriots receive through a visa with the same name, passive income, and the impossibility of working in Italy.
⠀
☝️BUT… according to immigration law, this type of residence permit can be requested by 4 categories of foreigners.
⠀
☝️And what is even more important is that each of these four categories will have “its own” Residenza Elettiva residence permit, with its own rules for obtaining and renewing, with its own duties and rights, sometimes radically different from each other.
⠀
📌 So:
⠀
✅ A foreigner who has obtained a visa to enter Italy for the reason of Residenza Elettiva without the right to work in Italy.
⠀
✅ A foreigner who has lived and worked in Italy with a work residence permit. Upon reaching retirement age or by years of service, or due to disability, or receiving a social pension, the work residence permit is converted into the Residenza Elettiva residence permit. And after the passage and adoption of law 173 of December 12, 2020, this category is allowed reverse conversion.
⠀
✅ The residence permit “residenza elettiva” is also equated to the Carta di soggiorno per i familiari di cittadino comunitario. This is when a European Union citizen invites a family member, a non-EU citizen, who lives at the expense of the inviting party.
⠀
✅ Foreign employees, religious representatives, and pilgrims who perform their work in the service of Vatican bodies and organizations also reside in Italy on a Residenza Elettiva residence permit.
